I had to go into:
/home/nitrous/.mozilla/firefox/l3p45k9w.default/extensions/VMwareVMRC@vmware.com/plugins/lib

Then edit the file:
wrapper-gtk24.sh

I added the following lines near the top:
VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK='force'
export VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK="force"
