Ingredients Ingredients

  • 4 ounces Camembert cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup fine bread crumbs
  • 3/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 3 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • 2 tbs. creme fraiche
  • 2 tbs. cranberry sauce
  • Several sprigs parsley

How to make Fried Camembert

  1. Cut chilled cheese in 6 equal wedges. In a shallow bowl, beat egg.
  2. On a sheet of wax paper, mix bread crumbs and sesame seeds.
  3. Dip each cheese wedge in egg and turn to coat. Roll cheese in crumb mixture to coat.
  4. If preparing ahead, cover and refrigerate now until ready to cook.
  5. In a heavy saucepan, heat about 2 inches of oil to (190 degrees C).
  6. Fry the Camembert 3 minutes, or until golden brown, then drain.
  7. Wash and shake the lettuce leaves dry, and arrange on individual plates.
  8. Beat the cream very stiff, and mix with the creme fraiche and 2 tablespoons of the cranberry sauce.
  9. Place a dollop of cranberry cream on the lettuce leaves.
  10. Wash and pat the parsley dry, dip briefly into the oil, and drain.
  11. Lay the Camemberts on the lettuce leaves, garnish with the parsley.
