Espresso

  1. Ensure cup/glass is warm - fill partly with hot water if necessary, once warm put on top of machine to keep warm
  2. Run portafilter under hot tap to ensure it's warm
  3. Dry Portafilter
  4. Fill with grounds to level
  5. Flatten grounds level with surface
  6. Press with tamper - top of portafilter should be level with top of metal on the tamper
  7. Purge the group head by pressing and holding 1 cup button for a few seconds
  8. Attach portafilter to machine
  9. Press 2 cup button
    1. Coffee should start to flow between 8-10 seconds
      • If less the grind is too course or you have underdosed the filter basket
      • If starts to drip but doesn't flow after 15 seconds then you have either overdosed the filter basket or the grind is too fine
    2. Total time for shot should be 25-35 seconds
  10. Discard puck - if puck sticks to group head then hold portafilter underneath and press 1 cup to loosen it
  11. Clean portafilter


Latte Milk

  1. Fill milk to about 1cm - 1.5cm below bottom of spout
  2. Flush steam wand for a second
  3. Place wand under surface
  4. Turn on steam
  5. Angle wand so as to create a whirlpool effect
  6. Raise wand till you hear a tearing sound
  7. Keep raised wand as milk expands
  8. Hold side of jug to feel temperature
  9. When milk is just above body temperature submerge wand (keep it as whirlpool) till almost too hot to touch
  10. Keeping wand under water turn off steam
  11. Place jug aside and wipe wand immediately
  12. Flush wand for a few seconds, and ensure wand is clean
