Making Espresso with the BSE900

Espresso
- Ensure cup/glass is warm - fill partly with hot water if necessary, once warm put on top of machine to keep warm
- Run portafilter under hot tap to ensure it's warm
- Dry Portafilter
- Fill with grounds to level
- Flatten grounds level with surface
- Press with tamper - top of portafilter should be level with top of metal on the tamper
- Purge the group head by pressing and holding 1 cup button for a few seconds
- Attach portafilter to machine
- Press 2 cup button
- Coffee should start to flow between 8-10 seconds
- If less the grind is too course or you have underdosed the filter basket
- If starts to drip but doesn't flow after 15 seconds then you have either overdosed the filter basket or the grind is too fine
- Total time for shot should be 25-35 seconds
- Coffee should start to flow between 8-10 seconds
- Discard puck - if puck sticks to group head then hold portafilter underneath and press 1 cup to loosen it
- Clean portafilter
Latte Milk
- Fill milk to about 1cm - 1.5cm below bottom of spout
- Flush steam wand for a second
- Place wand under surface
- Turn on steam
- Angle wand so as to create a whirlpool effect
- Raise wand till you hear a tearing sound
- Keep raised wand as milk expands
- Hold side of jug to feel temperature
- When milk is just above body temperature submerge wand (keep it as whirlpool) till almost too hot to touch
- Keeping wand under water turn off steam
- Place jug aside and wipe wand immediately
- Flush wand for a few seconds, and ensure wand is clean
