Up at 3am to get to the airport to catch our 7am flight back to Hong Kong.
This time we were taking Mina’s mother with us for her to stay in Hong Kong with Mina’s sister. We were down the back of the aircraft this time which meant although it was noisy we got a great view out of the window.
We landed in Hong Kong and were out of the airport by 10am. Mina’s sister took their mother and our bags to their apartment in Jordan. We took the bus straight to Lantau’s gondola ride to the Big Buddha. The queue was excessively long – it took about 90 minutes to get on the ride.
The ride itself is very long, and offers some great views.
I got a great view of the new bridge to Macau.
It was the heat of the day by the time we got to the base of the Big Buddha, which is a walk from the end of the gondola and past a few buffalo.
At the bottom and in the heat we wondered if it was really a good idea.
It was a hot climb up all the steps but we made it.
Time was ticking away, so back to the base of the cable car, and catch the MTR to Hong Kong – Jess’s first ride in proper underground rail.
We picked up our bags and checked in to the Intercontinental Hotel.
Despite the fact it was by now 4:30 our room wasn’t ready for an hour, so Jess had a swim in the pool, and Mina and I enjoyed the view over the harbour.
Finally we got into our room, and the view was spectacular.
Mina’s best friend from her time living in Hong Kong visited us with her daughter, and soon we were joined by by her mother and sister as well. We watched the “laser show” from our room with them all, before going out to a Chinese restaurant down the road.
By this time though Jess and I had hit the wall. It was 10pm by now, and from a 3am start the day was done.
