Monday June 3rd is the first real day of our trip. It’s the first full day without travelling between countries.
With a healthy and useful dose of jet-lag we were up bright and early, and what better way to spend an early morning than by the pool. Jess had a fine swim almost alone before her cousins arrived to join her in the pool.
We had to be out of the hotel by 12, so after we checked out we went to the nearby mall and had our first meal of Jollibee. I thought my burger was pretty good, especially since my expectations from memory were high, though I think Jess was a bit disappointed it didn’t quite live up to the hype. It’s not haute-cuisine or anything but as far as fast-food burgers go they are pretty good.
For dinner we wanted to go the Vikings buffet restaurant, but the one in the area we were was booked for 3 weeks. However the Makati one was available so we booked in there. Knowing traffic is terrible we set out and arrived much too early. The mall it was in was pretty average (crap by NZ standards), but it had a supermarket, so we showed Jess around some of the more unusual items, and some of the familiar.
Eventually our allotted time came and we were granted entry. For a buffet it was actually very good. There were no cocktails available, but beer was actually included in the buffet price. I crammed in the sashimi, and enjoyed a number of great dessert cakes. The price came out very reasonable indeed, about 8000 pesos for the 11 of us.
After dinner was a 10km drive to Caloocan where we’d stay with Mina’s sister for a few nights. 10km that took an hour and a half. Ahh, Manila traffic.
